Following local initiatives in our community, our recent drive for Hurricane Helene relief efforts in Rutherfordton County, North Carolina, was successful. What began as an effort to fill one truck with supplies turned into something even better—thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community, we ended up sending not one but TWO fully loaded trucks to Rutherfordton County, North Carolina!

As soon as word got out, local businesses and citizens responded with outpouring love and support. Conn-Weld’s donation station saw a steady flow of contributions, as well as all partnering locations, and we were humbled to witness how deeply the community cares.

As the week progressed, more and more donations kept coming. We soon realized—we needed another truck. Thanks to Hagerman Enterprise generously donating their time and a second truck, we were able to pull it off and deliver all of the supplies to the distribution hub at Calvary Baptist Church in Rutherfordton County, North Carolina.

“What a blessing this is for the people who need immediate relief and assistance because of this tragedy. We all have a calling to help others always and especially when our neighbors are hurting. Our goal was to provide a truckload of relief effort supplies from our community. Having two loads go to North Carolina is a testament to the hearts of our community, and the outreach provided is sure to share the blessings,” said President Marvin Woodie.

In addition to general necessities, a focus was placed on getting supplies to the mud-out crews, who are dealing with the aftermath of Helene. Thanks to our community’s donations, we were able to send much-needed items, such as tools and protective equipment. These supplies will help crews as they work tirelessly to restore homes and businesses affected by Helene.

Donations were gathered at Conn-Weld, Bluefield and Princeton Lowe’s, Bluefield Sam’s Club, and Princeton Walmart and sorted over the span of three days before leaving October 10th at 6 a.m.

The power of community is strong and flowing. The donations, time spent sorting and packing, and transportation— every bit made a difference. We are proud to have led this initiative and will continue looking for ways to support our community and give a helping hand, especially in times of need.

All of us at Conn-Weld thank everyone who helped and contributed to this relief effort. Your generosity has reached beyond state lines, and the support you’ve given will provide real relief to the people of Rutherfordton County, North Carolina.
